Three people, in their 70s and 80s, died in the northeastern Aube region of France on Saturday, when a tree fell over the car they were traveling with while the state was hit by powerful winds.
The fourth passenger is in critical condition, local authorities told the AFP news agency.
In Switzerland, two people died and another disappeared after heavy rains that caused landslides in the southeast state, in the Italian-speaking Canton of Ticino, police said.
According to local media, the two victims were women on vacation in Switzerland.
Evil weather has also left several areas without electricity in Switzerland.
Last week too, Switzerland faced torrential rains that left one person dead and caused serious damage.
In northern Italy, the Aosta Valley reported large floods because of the rivers that flowed out of bed.
Scientists say climate change, driven by human activities, is increasing the severity and duration of extreme weather, such as floods and storms. / REL
