The president of the United States, Joe Biden, said Thursday during the D-Day anniversary note that the free world is with Ukraine and that it will not surrender to Russian aggression, bringing a parallel to the struggle of allies to free Europe from Nazi Germany in World War II.

United States and NATO “will not abandon” Ukraine, Biden said during the speech in Normandy on June 6th, marking the anniversary of the Allied landing in Normandy in 1944, which was a turning point that contributed to Adolf Hitler's defeat in 1945.

“Trust me: We won't bow down, we can't give in to budgeters; it's simply unthinkable. If we do, freedom will be subdued, all of Europe will be threatened”, Biden said at the ceremony organised by French President Emmanuel Macro, in honour of World War II survivors veterans.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Britain's King Charles III and other state leaders and other personalities attended.

Neither Russian President Vladimir Putin nor any officials from Russia were invited to attend the ceremony.

“Ukraine is possessed by a tyrant. They are struggling with extraordinary courage, they are suffering great losses, but they are never surrendering”, Biden said.

The American president elevated it. NATO as the world's largest <x0) military alliance” and said it “is more devoted than ever before to maintaining peace”.

Compared to World War II, Beden said that America's “solation was not an answer 80 years ago, and it's not yet the answer to”, a reference to some Republican politicians who are skeptical of American support for Ukraine.

We have to remember that the fact that they were heroes here that day does not free us from what we have to do today. Democracy is never guaranteed. Every generation must preserve it, protect it and fight for it. This is the test of the 112x1>, he stressed.

The ceremony was held near Omaha Beach, the code name of one of the two countries in which American forces landed, where more than 2,500 deaths were sustained by American troops killed on D-Day.

Day D was the biggest amphibious attack in history, attended by 156,115 troops from 12 countries.

In a post on social networks, Zelensky said that <x0 this event and today are memories of courage and dedication shown for the sake of freedom and democracy”.

The Allies protected Europe's freedom back then, Ukrainians now defend Europe's freedom. Unity then won, literal unity is now able to win”, Zelensky wrote.

Zelensky is expected to talk to Beden and Macroni during his stay in France. /rel
