Unacceptable and dangerous attacks by MP Dimal Basha on media and activist butterfly Kusari
From the Kosovo Assembly Speaker, Prime Minister Kurti's Vetevendosje Movement, Dimal Basha, has continued today's unprecedented attacks on media in Kosovo and civil society activists.
This government is the only government that has completely stopped their magic, and no cents go to the media anymore. So, I'd like to get hold of them. But the difference shows that we're not on that road and that we don't have a goal to catch”, Basha said.
This is an unacceptable attack on media freedom of medicine and pluralisation in Kosovo. Basha has specifically labeled the media jury at EPCPMF, activist Kosari.
It also matters who you speak. For example, we have the Cossar butterfly coming out and he's going to dictate the entire Kosovo Convention since you issued a KPM law, when the same law on behalf of media freedom comes out and protects the Devulles on the street. In the name of media freedom you can't defend the freedom of oligarchs, but neither can you rob the Republic”, Basha has said.
The attack on Mrs. Kusari is an unacceptable, dangerous and gender-based attack. Mr. Basha's accusations by the Parliament's speaker endanger the security of Mrs. Kusari, and aim to silence the critical voices of civil society.
Mrs. Kusari along with representatives of the AGK Board and other acts of media and civil society have given their remarks on the KPM Law under the NDI Information Integrity Forum.
The remarks of this forum have also been reflected in the Council of Europe expert report, which has called on Kosovo's Parliament not to adopt the law in its present form, as it does not meet the European standards of the Council of Europe. The Office of the European Union in Kosovo, the Council of Europe's Commissioner for Human Rights, the embassies of Germany and Italy in Kosovo, have also called on the Parliament to harmonise the Law with European standards before its adoption.
Mr. Basha's language, unfortunately, is the reflection of the stances and policies of the Vetevendosje Movement and the Government of Kosovo against freedom of medicine, freedom of expression and media plurality in Kosovo.
