The leader of the Party for Freedom and Justice (SSP), Dragan Djilas, following the adoption of the resolution on genocide in Srebrenica by the UN General Assembly (OKB), demanded by Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vucic, resigning that after the new defeat, this time at the UN, he cannot stay in the position of head of state.
The bottom line is this: Serbia does not need a president fighting, but whoever wins and Vucic continues to lose [...] Serbia is tired of continued losses. Therefore it is time for the great leader to lose all battles to eventually enter history”, the SSP chairman wrote in a communique, broadcast Serbian opposition media “Danas” on Thursday.
The UN General Assembly on Thursday 23 May adopted the resolution announcing July 11th International Day of the Srebrenica Genocide Victims area east of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where Serb forces killed more than 80,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys in 1995.
The resolution on Srebrenica passed 84 votes in favour, against 19 and 68 abstentions. The resolution on Srebrenica, which was adopted amid the strong opposition of the Serbian president, condemns the denial of genocide committed by Serbs, although neither Serbia nor Republika Srpska is mentioned in the resolution.
Besides Serbia, countries of the region Albania, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and Croatia voted in favour of the resolution drafted by Germany and Rwanda. Of the European Union countries (BE), only Hungary voted, while abstained Greece, Slovakia and Cyprus non-recognising Kosovo.
