Today, the Kosovo Central Bank's transitional period over the dinar issue ends. Field officials say citizens have had enough time to be informed about the CEC regulation.
And since tomorrow, to all those who use currency other than the euro for cash transactions in Kosovo, measures will be taken, writes RTK.
Today is the last of the Central Bank's transitional period on the dinar issue.
Under this period, no punitive measures have been imposed, but information has been provided to citizens about implementing cash payment regulations.
While commercial banks operating in Kosovo have been instructed to open new branches in the north.
After May 12th, all cash transactions available everywhere in Kosovo must be made with euros.
“Other non-euro currencies can be used in the Republic of Kosovo as a value for physical storage or in non-euro bank accounts, for conducting international payments in non-euro currency and for currency exchange activities”, cited in the BQK regulation
Applying the regulation especially in the north of the country is estimated to be challenging.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti, asked days ago for the completion of the transitary phase, has reaffirmed that the Central Bank is the one deciding on such issues, not the executive.
