The European Parliament has given its consensus on checks”, Germany's Federal Prosecutor's Office announced through a press release.
By EuronewsControls are being conducted under orders from the Federal Court of Justice and the European Investigative Order.
The operation included both Euro-Deputate Wing Offices and those of his assistant, Jian Guo, who was arrested last month by German authorities after being charged with serving as a Chinese secret service employee and that he had repeatedly passed over information on the negotiations and decisions of the European Parliament.
The case immediately got the name “china-gate” and caused political outrage. It is still unclear whether Tuesday's operations were led by Belgian or German police.
Maximiliaan Wing is a prominent exhibition of Germany's Alternative Party, which since 2019 sits alongside the far-right group Identity and Democracy.
After publishing the charges brought against the assistant, the Wing said it had learned his arrest from the press and that there was no more information to share.
He also underlined that he had no intention of resigning because of this scandal.
The raids come at a time when less than a month is missing from Euro-parliamentary elections, where foreign intervention is considered a serious concern.
