The accident was reported Saturday evening near the Veroce River, 55km north of Budapest.
The area is a popular refugee and boat travel destination and is on a route often used by sailing ships between Budapest and Austrian capital Vienna.
A few hours after the police began their search, they discovered a boat damaged in the water that was dragged ashore.
They are still searching for five adults -- three men and two women -- who believe they were on the boat, Reuters writes.
Investigations into the accident are continuing.
