While asking reporters if they believe the population to reach 1.5 million residents, Kastrati replied by himself: “We are getting closer. See you tonight.
At the media conference held today, the ASK director said that the available data show that over 400,000 citizens from the diaspora have been registered so far.
Over 400,000 citizens living abroad are registered via online process even through S1 form. The destructive part are Kosovo citizens living abroad but having Kosovo citizenship”, Kastrati said.
But the process has not gone through without obstacles.
Prior to completion on May 17th, the census could be postponed because of a Dragas municipality demand for delaying the process.
“Dragash made request last week to postpone the deadline for completion of the population registration process. Dragashi has a challenge with communities. There are some areas, settlements that have refused to be accepted. Those recorders we assigned were not accepted, and now we have sent other recorders there”, Kastrati said.
The process is set to be completed 17 May.
The last census was conducted in 2011. According to this census, Kosovo has over 1.7 million inhabitants.
