Copacabana beach became a major dance floor Saturday with more than a million and a half people gathered for the Madonna concert in Rio de Janeiro.
Before the concert, the whole city was filled with people and fans gathered in front of Hotel “Copacabana Palace” in hopes of catching a star's view. The city airport accepted 170 additional fans coming from around the world.
City officials estimated that 1.6 million people attended the concert, with some attending the beach-looking suites, while others watched the show from boats and yachts to sea.
In a scene surrounded by large screens, Madonna opened the concert with hit “Noting Really Matters”, which was enthusiastically welcomed by the public.
Brazilian pop singers Anita and Pablo Vitar, as well as younger musicians from school and samba, joined her at the stage during the concert.
