Prime Minister Albin Kurti has remembered the hero Luan Hardinaj on the 27th anniversary of the fall.
Kurti has said that the blood of Luan Haradinaj fried the stones of the border he had dreamed of breaking down amid barriers that should be eliminated on the hard way to unite Albanians.
Until that day, during the last four years of his life, Luan Haradinaj had repeatedly crossed the violent Yugoslav border between Albania and Kosovo. That day, he was leading the group of fighters who were entering from Albania to Kosovo, from the village of Vlahne of Hasi towards Cuzin. The date was May 6, 1997, Tuesday.
In the group that was leading the Lion, it was his brother, Ramushi, Fehmi and Jeva Laddrovci, Ilaz Kodra, Abedin Rexha, Ali Ahmeti, Emrush Xhemajli, Rafet Rama, Gani Rama and Selim Krasniqi. As they approached the border area in Qafamullar, they were confronted by the Yugoslav Army, in a bare terrain, and in a wild mountain relief. The lion was killed in the land. Rapheth, Fehmiu, and Ramush were wounded. Luan Haradinaj's blood fried the stones of the border he had dreamed of breaking down amid barriers that had to be eliminated on the difficult road to unifying Albanians.
It would be six months from then for the Kosovo Liberation Army to appear publicly, but The Lion had been working for that day for years. With the activities and links between groups, with armed shares, with supplies of logistics and by example of his commitment with dedication and bravery, the Golden Lion had become KLA lions. Today it was 27 years from the day of the Lion's fall, to a time when he was only 23.
Glory to Luan Haradinaj for his patriotic work among slain friends for Kosovo freedom!”, Kurti wrote on Facebook.
