The country's prime minister, Albin Kurti, has said it has been five years since justice institutions have been enabled to prosecute and try war criminals in their absence.
Kurti criticised the justice system in connection with the trial of war criminals even in their absence, saying they spent “five years without results”.
“5 years from state policy that brings faster access to justice. Five years of first calls to use the state device available to file charges against criminals and their monstrous crimes against our people. Five years without results. 25 years after the war, without justice for victims”.
The special procedure must be more active and efficient to bring criminals to justice. Acts filed for trial in absentia for war crimes can be counted on fingers”, Kurti wrote.
Furthermore, Kurti told the prosecution that addressing Serbia's crimes committed in Kosovo should be a priority, and according to him, there are witnesses and evidence from all massacres, which said the prosecution should file evidence for war crimes charges.
The Republic and the people need active and wise prosecutors, and effective and informed judges, to bring to justice all those responsible for the crimes committed during the war. Some of their names are publicly known, and many of them are known by survivors and family members of the victims”.
Therefore, we call again for the other pillar of power in Kosovo, the justice system, to act because it is time for the end to bring justice to war victims. The government has increased the budget, so we call for the Prosecutorial Council to urgently increase the capabilities for addressing war crimes”, Kurti said.
On the other hand, the head of the government said that the judgment and condemnation of war criminals is the duty and duty of past suffering and hope for the future, the sacrifice of the fallen in war, and for generations growing in freedom.
