Two days ago, Kosovo Police conducted an action in the north of the country, where they closed several financial offices of the so-called “Savings Post Bank”. But this action was not well received by the internationals, where they stressed that the government had not been co-ordinated with them in advance.
In the eyes of the US, this police action against these Serbian BKP branches undermines the perception that Kosovo acts with good will, demanding that Kosovo return constructive engagements in the EU-brokered dialogue.
“It (action) undermines the perception that Kosovo is acting with good will for resolving issues between it and Serbia through facilitated dialogue ... We call on the Kosovo government to return constructive engagements in the EU-mediated dialogue as the right way to resolve issues related to normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, and to address the basic needs of all its citizens, including those of the Serb minority, negatively influenced by the recent amendments to the currency <18>, the State Department spokesman for<2> said a State Department spokesman for the state department.
Through a media communique, the EU has considered this police operation to be unilateral and uncoordinated. In the official Foreign Service announcement, the EU has stated that all these actions are escalating acts and contrary to the spirit of normalisation.
The European Union has seen with concern Monday's police operation at the offices of the Serbian Post Savings Bank in northern Kosovo. The closure and seizure of these offices without warning or prior co-ordination and just days after the recent meeting of Dialogue, where the issue of the countries of the Post Savings Bank was addressed, is escalating and conflicts with Kosovo's normalisation spirit and trust in achieving normalisation of relations through”, the EU communiqué points out.
Besides the EU, critical of this police action in the north has been Great Britain. In a response to the British Embassy on the social network “X”, notes that Great Britain is concerned that tensions may increase behind these actions.
“We are concerned that yesterday's action of the Police in northern Kosovo risks exacerbating tensions and making it more difficult to find a long-term solution to the currency issue... “Encouraging Kosovo authorities to co-ordinate actions with international partners and to be constructively devoted to the EU-mediated dialogue to resolve such issues”, Britain's Embassy's post in Kosovo, said among other things.
While KFOR has declared it was informed shortly before the operation began, it said there were personnel involved in the action. KFOR said it expects long-term consultations by Kosovo Police on such shares.
“KFOR was announced shortly before the start of lic operations against branches of the Postanska Stedionica Bank located in northern Mitrovica municipalities in northern Mitrovica, Leposaviqi, Zvecan and Zubin Potok. KFOR personnel were not involved in executing these operations. KFOR expects long-term consultations on any action by the Kosovo Police or the Kosovo Security Force that could affect regional security”.
On this subject, the OSCE has reacted.
