According to Reuters, tanks and armoured machine guns were seen near the Al-Awda mosque, which is the central reference point in Rafah.
The Israeli Army said its forces continued to operate in the Rafah area, without commenting on the progress reported in downtown, Reuters writes.
It is known that during the night, Israeli forces have attacked the city by air and land, pushing the offensive forward, despite international reactions to Sunday's attack that caused a massive fire in a tent, killing at least 45 Palestinians, where more than half were children, women and older ones.
In another movement allegedly aimed at curbing violence, Spain, Ireland and Norway have officially recognised a Palestinian state this Tuesday.
