Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has announced that Israel will abolish its free trade agreement with Turkey.
The minister has announced that he will set a 100% fee for other imports from Turkey, such as “taking revenge” on Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's decision to ban exports to Israel.
Early this month, Turkey has said it was banning exports to Israel during the length of the Israeli war. But, the Turkish Trade Ministry has said companies have three months to meet existing orders through third countries, Reuters reports.
His assessment of the ban on imports in Israel constitutes a declaration of an economic boycott and a serious violation of international trade agreements Turkey is engaged in”, the Israeli Finance Minister has declared.
He has noted that Israel's actions will last only as long as Turkish President Erdogan remains in power.
“If at the end of Erdogan's mandate, Turkey's citizens choose a leader that is reasonable and not a hater of Israel, it would be possible to return the trade route with Turkey”, the Israeli minister stressed.
