Netayah made the decision public on May 5, through an X post known earlier as Twitter. But the details of the impact this decision will have on Al Jazeera are not yet clear. And it is not yet known when the decision will come into force and whether it is permanent or temporary.
Al Jazeera, who has headquarters in Doha, Qatar, has not yet commented on the Israeli decision. But an Al Jazeera correspondent in the Arab service said this order would affect broadcaster operations in Israel and eastern Jerusalem, from which it had broadcast live programmes since October 7th, when the war between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian group declared terrorist organisation by the United States and the European Union.
Correspondent said the Israeli government's decision would have no impact on Al Jazeera's operations in Palestinian territories.
Israeli media said the decision in the governing cabinet would enable Israel to block Al Jazeeran from operating in the state for 45 days, according to the decision.
My government ruled unanimously: Al Jazeera's exciting channel will close in Israel”, Netanyah wrote.
Al Jazeera has strongly denied that it is an inflammatory channel against Israel.
Israel and Al Jazeera for a long time have disagreements. But the decision threatens rising tensions with Qatar, as the Government in Doha is currently playing a key role in efforts to mediate an agreement that would stop the war in Gaza.
Al Jazeera is one of the few international media reporting from Gaza since the start of the war on 7 October. The Arabic-language programs of this media often publish statements from Hamas and other militant groups in the region. This media was sharply criticised by the United States during the American intervention in Iraq and following the overthrow of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. / REL/
