Hoxhaj said Kosovo meets all criteria for membership, stressing that even though it is the newest state, it claims it is the most consolidated democracy in the region.
He, in News24, added that member states have reflected their positions with votes given at the KE Parliamentary Assembly, even though he said there is efforts to condition membership with the establishment of the Serb majority municipalities' association.
According to him, the next step for Kosovo, if it membership in the KiE, should be NATO.
Kosovo meets all criteria. We are the youngest state, but we claim to be the most consolidated democracy in the region. We meet all the standards that need a country to be in the KiE. After NATO and the EU, the KiE is the third most important organisation in Europe. For Kosovo it would be a new sealing of its citizenship as a European country, and that membership would be very important. Member States have reflected their positions with ballots given at the KiE Parliamentary Assembly”.
I'm hearing there's an attempt to condition membership on the establishment of association as a last prerequisite. I think it's an unfair thing to do to Kosovo, knowing it meets the criteria. This is one way in which major states make policies in relation to other states like Kosovo. It's a common practice. After this major geopolitical change, the next step should be NATO”, Hoxhaj said.
