Marco Langhorst, who serves as deputy commander of the third German Military Police Regiment, has talked about recent preparations conducted by this unit.
Langhorst who's part of Military Police Since 1998, in an interview published by the German Ministry of Defence, it has been asked about documenting war crimes in general.
The lieutenant colonel also mentioned Kosovo, where he said they recently documented mass cemetery.
According to him, such information can be used in court.
“The war crimes documentation had fallen second because of the current status situation. Recently, during our mission in Kosovo, we have had to document mass graveyards and record information that can be used in court. Since then, information space has become noticeably more difficult and faster. Dezinformation and propaganda are common. We need to adapt to this. During our training, we work very intensively with the Federal Criminal Police Office, among other things. Representatives of the International Criminal Court were also with us to prepare for possible scenarios. The war in Ukraine shows very clearly how important it is to document war crimes and dominate the information space”, he said.
According to the German colonel, the 3rd Military Police Regiment in Munchen, is the first “contact point to all military police questions from soldiers in Germany”.
