German MP: KiE membership should not be mixed with dialogue

German Social Democrat MP Frank Schwabe has said that Kosovo should be a member of the Council of Europe as soon as possible, and that the decision that Kosovo will not enter the agenda in the days when the ministers' meeting is held is the wrong decision.

He stressed that the issue of Kosovo membership in the KiE should not be mixed up with the talks.

I think unfortunately there is a mix of international organisations and negotiations. We have the Council of Europe, we have our values, our measures, monitoring procedures regarding the situation of democracy and minority rights, especially, so the Serb community would have a better voice on the Council of Europe, and we don't want to mix that with negotiations elsewhere. We are not part of the negotiations, so we do not need to listen to Serbia”, the German deputy said.

We should not mix our discussions, our negotiations with discussions and other negotiations, I understand there is a process between Serbia and Kosovo, but the future, but this has nothing to do with our organisation.

Our organisation must decide whether this country meets its obligations to be part of the Council of Europe. Compared to other member states, Kosovo is far better-than-x0>, he stressed.

approach Schwabe said it encourages the Kosovo government and opposition to do everything to draw as close as possible with the Council of Europe. He said that on the other hand they would try to push the Committee of Ministers to make a positive decision.

The “not why you need to negotiate with Serbia, that's for yourself, for Kosovo, to strengthen democracy and human rights. You're on a good track but not down the street. We will set the example that we do not accept the fact that the Committee of Ministers does not want to decide, they must decide because we ask for a positive decision”, he said.

Speaking on the question of dialogue with Serbia and Association, German Social Democrat MP Frank Schwabe said Kosovo should take important steps to ensure minority rights.

If this is to be done, in any negotiations, it is best to be done immediately, and I ask everyone in the Republic of Kosovo to support this”, he said. / RTK
