Munich Airport in Germany is closed because some climate protection activists have entered its home.
At the start of local holidays, climate activists discontinued flying operations at Munich Airport after they entered the airport area early Saturday morning, passed a siege and landed in asphalt.
A German news agency reporter, The DPA, managed to see at least two people sitting on the runway while reports that numerous police forces were at the scene.
For security reasons, all flight operations were subsequently banned so that ups and downs were not initially possible. Shortly thereafter, however, a runway was reopened, and operations began again with delays. Police said they arrested eight people.
As the airport spokesman explained, only the planned landings in Munich from five o'clock in the morning were initially affected because the lifts were allowed only by six o'clock. The incoming planes were diverted to other airports.
The airport was expecting many travelers on the first weekend of local holidays, and about 350 thousand passengers were expected from Friday to Sunday.
At Munich Airport, there were 2,000 and 860 flights planned during this period.
In the past, the group's activists had taken similar action at several German airports, such as Berlin, Hamburg and Düsseldorf.
