European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen accused the AfD party of having “trafficking” Germany, while the far-right party is facing scandals before the European Parliament elections.
Alternatives to Germany ( AfD) last month faced a scandal after a parliamentary adviser to the party's key European election candidate, held in June, was arrested under suspicion of spying on China.
The candidate, Maximiliaan Wing, has also been involved in Russian propaganda claims.
The AfD's behaviour is “in an unfair manner”, said von Cromon during its Union Christiano Democrat party congress held in Berlin.
According to her, AfD “is doing propaganda for [Russian president, Vladimir] Putin and is spying on China” before European elections.
“First, AfD complains of people and their homeland, then AfD betrays the same homeland to autocrats. You must be ashamed of”
According to von Cremon, the far-right party's programme for European elections would destroy jobs and accused AfD of wanting to get Germany out of the EU.
Von der Leyen, former German Defence Minister, is seeking a second term in the post of EC chief.
According to polls, the AfD is among several extreme rightist parties throughout Europe that are expected to do well in the elections. /rel
