BQK: 2.5 million coins of 2 euros have been withdrawn from circulation

The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo has reported co-ordinated activities in combating counterfeit coins, particularly coins 2 euros, during the end of 2023 and the first part of 2024. The CEC has organised inter-institutional meetings for this purpose and has held activities in line with the Pre-Traditional Operation Relief Plan.

Between April 2024, The CEC has achieved some significant results in fighting counterfeit money and implementing regulation measures for cash operations:
) have withdrawn from circulation and deposited in the CEC about 2.5 million pieces of two-euro punitive currency;
) have been detected and prevented from entering the financial system by some 54,000 pieces of 2 euro punitive coins, drawing them out of the alleged circulation as counterfeits;
) the economy is supplied with close to 5.82m pieces of euro bills fully new and adequate for re-xycling in many of the 261.6m euros;
All new coins were imported 5 million pieces, or 8m euros;
) have been exported 2.4m in pieces (2.8m euros) of the currency of 2 euros (rejected from circulation);
) The number of bank notes of 500 (five hundred) euros attracted by circulation and deposited in the CEC has exceeded 266,000 (two hundred sixty-six thousand) in pieces/one in value of over 133 (a hundred thirty-threem euros);
There are four (4) bank licenses for cash import/export; and

In addition, the BQK has implemented the Free Pre-Determinable Adjusting Plan, implementing activities at all points of the plan, as the functioning of the free phone line, easing conditions for opening bank accounts, and the temporary suspension of the BEC's fee.
During this period, the CEC has licensed 8 branch/zys of financial institutions, has placed 38 ATMs/ ATM, and has conducted over 350 promotional visits and activities.
The CEC has stressed that it continues to focus on expanding access to finance, financial involvement, financial education and consumer protection.
The Kosovo Central Bank has encouraged citizens and businesses to use electronic payments as much as possible and to report any suspicion of counterfeit currency to responsible authorities.
