“The Prosecution Position relies on multiple and solid pillars. The evidence of the responsibility of the accused comes from other witnesses, and their testimony was consisting and confirms each other's testimony. As far as this evidence goes, we have the defendant's statement. He admits that he was in Kukes during the period specified in the indictment. Also, it has acknowledged that it has participated in some of the crimes, although admissions in this direction have been partial to”, said prosecutor Filippo De Minicis, reports the “Justice Vowif”.
Speaking of defence answers, prosecutor De Minicis said it does not matter to them that the accused has admitted to beating up some of the victims he has said he has not regretted and that he will do the same today.
“The position of defence is that the accused has been a freedom fighter, left Belgium in 1999 to go to Albania to fight for his country's freedom and has been few times at the Kukes Metali factory where he went to take supplies and then crossed the front line. The accused, says the defence has no connection with the crimes he is charged with. The defense states that the victim who identified him as an official is either a liar or a mistake or a both. It does not matter that even the accused has actually acknowledged that he has beaten up some of these victims and that he said he has not regretted it and that he will do the same today”, he said.
De Minicis said their charges supported in testimony to KLA members who have been in the factory and that for witnesses who have already died, their suffering has been reflected in the partial admission the accused has made.
“Then, we have testimony from other KLA members who have been in the factory and have seen the accused there at the same time that the victims have said he was part of their mistreatment. All agree and confirm that he did what he was accused of. Not all the victims had the chance to testify here. Unfortunately, some of them died before this trial began, but their stories are earlier statements, in the testimony of other persons who were banned with them and the testimony of their family members. In fact, their suffering is reflected in the partial admission the accused himself committed, said prosecutor De Minicis.
