A Polish citizen identified as Pawel K. was arrested on suspicion that he participated in preparing the murder of Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky by spying on and revealing information on airport security.

He was arrested in Poland on charges that he was ready to help Russian military intelligence service in a plot to kill Ukrainian president, according to a statement by the Polish prosecutor's office.

Poland's National Prosecutor's Office said the husband requested contacts with Russians directly involved in the war in Ukraine and was expected to broadcast detailed information about Rzeszow Airport - Yassionka in southeastern Poland, near the Ukrainian border.

If convicted, he could face up to eight years in prison, reports Bubc.

Last year, Polish authorities said they had arrested a group of foreign citizens under suspicion of spying on Russia. They reportedly had installed dozens of cameras, including some about the Rzeszow-Jasionka airport.

On Thursday, neighboring Germany arrested two suspected Russian spies who were planning to sabotage German military aid to Ukraine.
