Greece's former prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, said the movement to implement the Constitutional Court's act on the Decani Monastery is not enough to support Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe.
In his address to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Tsipras spoke to serious crossings between Kosovo and Serbia and the need for the establishment of association.
This cannot be enough to support membership. We've seen very serious crossings. Some because of Belgrade, but some more because of Pristina's decisions. What's important is that we need actions in terms of the law on expropriation and trustful proposals for establishing the Association of Serb majority municipalities, including the guide. We cannot build peace on abstract pledges”, he said.
Tsipras said the find of a political compromise “is needed, and that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti should exploit his political capital, like Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq.
“Politicians must have the political will for progress, even if it means sacrificing a part of their political capital. I have also talked many times with Prime Minister Kurti, who I believe has a very important political capital with his people, that he should exploit and, as I have spoken to President Vuciq in Serbia, that he too can exploit his political capital”, he said.
