The closed club for renovation works is on the first floor of a 16-floor building in Besikta district, on the European side of town.
According to local media, there was an explosion “near the” scene that caused the fire.
Istanbul Governor Davut Gul told reporters at the scene that the causes of fire are being investigated and believed the victims were persons involved in the renovation work.
Five people have been detained and interrogated by authorities as they are being investigated for the causes of fire.
Among those arrested are night club directors and a responsibility for renovation works.
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc stressed that a warrant has been issued for 5 suspects, including three club officials, the responsible director and 1 person responsible for restructuring”.
