SBASK warns protest on 1 May

The Education Union has warned that unless the government examines the demands and concerns presented by this union, union action will be taken. Directors of this union have indicated that on 1 May a protest will be organised, but in the event required by membership, more general strike will continue on [...]

A 1 May protest is expected to be organised by the Education Union as a warning to the Ministry of Education, that further union steps can be taken if there is no readiness to negotiate, which the representatives of the Education Union have now requested.

Education Union Vice President Vjollca Shala told Kosovo Radio that the reported steps have been forced to take as social dialogue between the SBASK and the Ministry of Education is lacking.

Because we are not seeing social dialogue between the union and the ministry of education being established, we will probably start with a protest that will be held on 1 May. Then it will start on strike for an hour, then two hours and then a day. We hope that we will not go on general strike and the entire learning process will be interrupted in Kosovo”, she has stressed.

On the other hand, Shala said the education system in the country is facing more problems, and dialogue with the Ministry of Education is needed. In view of this situation, education workers, according to it, are making constant demands to start more union steps.

A lot of problems that now distract the education system and educators in Kosovo have been brought together. We know that working conditions in many schools are miserable. Then we will debate the issue of individual teaching contracts, an issue that has already been raised by municipal education directors and some of the municipalities, and on many other education issues in Kosovo”, it has added.

Regarding the Education Union's warning of the possibility of organising the 1 May protest and other union steps expected to take in the coming months, even though efforts, Radio Kosovo has failed to receive answers from the Ministry of Education.
