Kosovo Deputy Speaker Enver Hoxhaj, at a recent chairmanship meeting, has made the important proposal for the Assembly of Kosovo to support the UN General Assembly resolution that sets a day for “International Day of Memory and Memorial of the 1995 Genocide at Srebrenica”.
Hoxhaj stressed the importance of Kosovo's commitment to commemorate and condemn the tragic events of genocide, despite the lack of a seat at the UN.
“Not being a member of the UN where we would be natural supporters of this resolution, this is the best way for Kosovo to join the democratic world in condemning and commemorating genocide in Srebrenica,” Hoxhaj said.
He continued to stress the need for the meeting with the past and to let it know that the “genocide and Serbian policy of Belgrade towards Kosovo, Bosnia and Croatia must be punished and commemorated, in order that it never returns to the region”.
Hoxhaj's proposal came in response to global efforts to ensure that such human tragedies are not forgotten and to build a brighter future based on memory and lessons of the past.
This proposal is expected to be further discussed at the upcoming Kosovo Assembly sessions and to receive broad support from all political sides.
