Two women were killed in Kosovo within a few days. One case happened in Ferizaj and the other in Pec. In the first case, the suspect is the former husband and in the second case the victim's husband. The situation is being described as alarming, while urgent action is required to prevent the murder of women.
The country's president, Vjosa Osmani, has said that the childicide has taken on extraordinary proportions and must be stopped at any cost.
We're all up this morning with terrible news about the murder of a woman by her husband. This terrible phenomenon that is hurting society and our country, this childicide which has unfortunately taken extraordinary proportions should stop at any cost and the only way to stop it is if we wake up as society, as a state and as a nation”, Osman said on Tuesday.
Osmani said we need to reawaken against this phenomenon because we don't have the lives of girls and women to lose.
She then called on everyone to stop violence on gender grounds, as such a thing is sullied the state and can destroy it from within.
We all get caught up against this phenomenon because we don't have the lives of girls and women to lose. So I call on all of you, civil society activists, security and justice institutions, citizens, women and men together to stop gender-based violence once and for all, which, as I mentioned, is damaging our country and can destroy it inside. We have a duty to fight this phenomenon and protect the girls and women and citizens”, Osmani said.
During Monday day dozens of citizens marched into the centre of Kosovo's capital, Pristina, calling for security delivery for girls and women. In the march organised by the Council of Thoughts and Religious Action, protesters carried banners with inscriptions like “Security for girls and women”, “Our enemy is Patriarchate”, “And how many lost calls”.
They called for security for girls and women as they marched from Square “Zahir Pajaziti” to the Kosovo Government building, before which they protested.
