Lajcak: The tangible vision of EU membership would further the normalisation of Kosovo reports- Serbia

Emisari Miroslav Lajcak, at a conference for the Western Balkans currently held in Ljubljana, has shown his view of how Western Balkan countries could make progress towards their EU membership.

He says that if one of the six countries moves towards the EU it will give a message to others that this can be done, as well as activate citizens to seek more of their leaders to follow the same path, the Express newspaper reports.

If you ask me how to change, I'd say it would be very good if one of the Western Balkan countries were to explode [to the EU] because they're adapting to doing very little because they believe that science is worth it, but when they see one making dramatic progress this would be a wake-up call for others. This will also awaken pro-European forces in these countries and they will ask leaders how they are making progress and we are not doing anything wrong”, Lajcak said.

He says it would be the tool to advance even in the normalisation process between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as in the functioning of the Bosnian state.

From my personal experience, it turns out that there is no stronger leverage for reforms and to address issues such as Bosnia and Herzegovina's functioning and normalisation or normalisation of reports between Kosovo and Serbia no stronger leverage than the tangible vision of European membership. If you believe this will happen then you are motivated to address your problems”.
