The Kusari butterfly, a media rights lawyer, has provided some details about what they have discussed in the prime minister about the draft law on the Independent Media Commission.
Kusari says that this bill was made without any change, although, as she says, they had gone to work together to regulate some of the shortcomings within it. Kusari adds that nothing has been taken into account.
International experience has changed my perspective, and Jamie and I went to the prime minister's office where we met Luan Dalip and Tea Blakaj. We told him this law doesn't work, we need to work together to fix it. They said: Yeah, thanks for coming. One year, we asked for an email account, unless we saw that they published the law without any change, that means total neglect of the Fed-back”, Kusari said.
The bill on the Independent Media Commission, Kusari, sees it as a control over the latter.
It even warns that such a bill can create chaos.
The problem with the bill is that these are wanting the KPM, to introduce all of the online media, it's meaningless, it doesn't function and it will create chaos. That's not a regular goal, but to control the media”, Kusari said.
According to Kusari, the biggest damage to the media sphere is that it can now open political parties, even religious institutes, that have not happened in the past.
“VVA does the wrong thing, and then she doesn't know how to pull back and come and tame it. My main concern is that, actually in Kosovo if you're a political party, you can't get on television, if you're a religious institution, you can't make television, and now, what's going on is allowing it. This is the biggest damage it will cause to the media sphere”, Kusari said.
“The bill is highly problematic, but it has some good parts that are the issue of media ownership, but unfortunately the bad side is over-dominating”, Kusari adds. /Blic Interview
