Chairman PDK, Memli Krasniqi, has said that until The PDK was last year in charge of the Ministry of Education in 2017-18 school year spent less money on books for a smaller number of students, Vetevendosje years spent more on fewer students.
In the last year that the PDK has led the Ministry of Education, in 2017-18, 3.3m euros were spent on the books of 247 thousand students. This year, when Vetevendosje heads the Ministry of Education, an estimated 12m euros for books have been spent, although the books of students from classes 6-9 have not been compensated. Last year, in the 2022-23 school year, about 17m euros were spent on books of about 210 thousand students. So, although there are about 400,000 less students, the Vetvendosje Government has spent about nine, respectively, 14m euros more! This smells like corruption and gross misuse at the expense of students and their parents”, Krasniqi has written today.
He said that for this reason his party launched the initiative that resulted from the founding of the parliamentary investigative commission on the issue.
“Therefore, at the initiative of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, parliament's investigative commission was established to whitewash what happened to this scandalous process of supplying students with books”.
