Pristina University has said the Ethics Council deserves more time for reviewing the case of Professor Dzevat Krasniqi and complained of pressure from protesters.
In a public explanation Friday, The UPP said it takes into account that the case has been denounced much later that the period when it allegedly occurred, the Eika Council needs time to make the decision.
“As in any case, even in the case in question, the Ethics Council conducts defined and applicable legal procedures, including specifically the process defined in the respective UPI regulation for disciplinary procedures and measures”, Pristina University said in the statement.
“Rasti in question, there is no exception to this rule. We explain that the case addressed, allegedly happened a year and a half ago (October/November 2022, and January/February 2023). Despite that, the case was addressed to the Ethics Council only in mid-March 2024. Whenever a case is presented, it is taken and treated with the right seriousness and predestined procedures, but if it has taken so long to present it, the Council estimates it deserves a time space, which is still far more reasonable than that, to work freely and, above all, to make sure that each side hears and examines the declaration of each side, involved in this matter and that it should be heard. In this regard, the Council estimates that there is neither room nor reason for dramatizing the situation. ”
The UPI, however, said it is dealing with the case urgently.
In view of the nature of the claim, the Ethics Council has, however, agreed to handle this case urgently, which it is doing. On this basis, the Council has so far held three hearings, which have been deliberately held by witnesses proposed by the denounciatory side”, the UP said.
The hearing of witnesses from the denounciatory side is the necessary procedural step to avoid a controversial result and to ensure that the case is judged correctly. In a democratic order and system that is governed by rule of law, the Ethics Council takes care to swear arbitrariity, enabling the parties in the procedure to hear and present their claims in a complete and equal manner. This is because the fundamental principle of a fair, impartial, and objective process applies to cases considered by the Ethics Council. ”
The UPI said the claims are serious, and that also implies that the case should be taken seriously.
Each claim and each test should be considered, within a reasonable time, by making maximum effort to establish this case within as fast as possible and objectively optimistic times, always making sure that the justice of the” decision is not harmed, it says in clarification.
For several-day protests by the Student Religious Movement and several other students, The MP complained about pressure.
Under impartial and objective treatment, it is imperative that all sides refrain from any means of pressure. The Ethics Council has refused and will reject the pressure as modalizing its functioning, because such is in the best interest of institutional functioning and judicial order, in line with the best European and international standards”, the UPI said.
“Of course, the Ethics Council, as the University of Pristina itself, understands and acknowledges the right to protest, but calls on all parties involved, as well as third parties, for the protests to take place democraticly, in a way that does not exercise pressure and does not prevent the commissions of the Ethics Council. ”
