Israel vows to defend against any Iran attack

Israel's military has said on Friday it is ready to defend the country and respond if Iran avenges a deadly attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria.

Tehran blames Israel for the air strike on its consulate in Damascus earlier this month.

Israel has not commented on this attack, but the American Army believes the attack was carried out by Israel.

The rise in tensions has caused international concerns that Israel's devastating war in the Gaza Strip against Hamas, who has been declared a terrorist organisation by the United States and the European Union, could spread throughout the Middle East.

Seven members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC), including two generals, were killed in the aftermath.

Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatolah Ali Khamenei, vowed revenge after the attack, saying that Israel would be occupied by the hands of our brave men”.

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, warned on Thursday that Iran is threatening to carry out a <x0-second major attack in response to the attack on its consulate in Damascus.
