“As we have done in the past in similar cases, Greece will abstain from this vote. In other words, it will not support Kosovo's application for membership in the Council of Europe for political reasons”.
This has made Giorgos Gerapetritis aware of Greek radio “CanalEna”, while underlining that “Greece remains principal in its foreign policy”.
“We will continue in this principled logic, encourage discussion between Pristina and Belgrade, we want peaceful resolutions of differences, but it depends also on the will of parties to comply with international law”, Gerapetritis said, among other things, broadcast Clankosova.tv.
The vote on whether Kosovo will become a member of the Council of Europe will be held next May by the European Council Committee of Ministers. The council consists of the foreign ministers of 46 member states, including countries that have not officially recognised Kosovo's independence.
A few days ago, the Council of Europe's Political and Democracy Committee gave the green light, adopting rapporteur Dora Bakoyannis' report, which argued that Kosovo has met the conditions for membership.
