Adults aged 18 and older are allowed to own 25 grams in public environments. There are up to 50 grams of privately cultivated living quarters. Privately, there are up to three cannabis plants. Starting on July 1, 2024, it is also permitted to create cannabis clubs to worship it collectively.
As the law goes into effect, cannabis is removed from the list of substances prohibited in the Narcotic Law, but the sale and distribution of cannabis continue to be prohibited by law.
Severe Police Controls
Police representatives expect the cannabis's partial legalisation on April 1st will increase the burden of police officers. Some of the federal bodies will do more checks. Land police Saxon-Anhalt, for example, reportedly wanted to increase controls in the road flow to see if the drivers are under the influence of cannabis. According to the country's Interior Ministry, this aims to reduce the risk of road traffic accidents as much as possible.
Police in other countries aim to gradually expand traffic controls related to the use of cannabis by drivers. Efforts to identify cannabis merchants in particular to protect children, young people, and teenagers will also increase. /dw
