Great Britain's Foreign Secretary has called on NATO members to spend more on defence.
The former British prime minister said NATO is “so much stronger than it was years ago”, noting that Sweden will be welcomed for the first time as a full-fledged participant, writes Skynews.
“I never needed to remember or understand NATO's vital importance in our life”, Cameron initially said.
And it's been extraordinary that I've supported it all through the quiet years, years in which some people wondered if there was a functioning brain, I never lost confidence in NATO”.
“We have a tyrant in Europe trying to change borders by force”, Cameron said.
And there are two choices: you can calm that approach, or you can face that approach”.
It's definitely the right thing to face. And that's what we're doing giving Ukraine such strong support”.
He said if Ukraine wins the fight against Russia, it means “NATO will be strong”, but if it loses, “celebrations will be held mainly in Moscow and of course, in Beijing, and in Tehran and North Korea”.
This would be a bleak “future” given the risk to NATO countries and would let others ask if they can trust us as allies.
He called on NATO members to spend more money on defence.
“I think success will depend on more and more countries that reach 2% [of GDP defence spending], or more countries that see 2% as a floor, rather than a” ceiling, Cameron said.
