“Businesses in existential state of some on the verge of default”

The chairman of the League of Businesses of Kosovo (LBK), Besart Dresaj, has told Online Economy that many businesses are “existential state” and some on the verge of bankruptcy, due to the lack of the Independent Commission's Board for Mine and Mine Commission (KPMM). He has said that the Government's statements of growing circulation from businesses to [...]
He has said the Government's statements of growth in circulation from businesses in the country is not real and that the climate of doing business in Kosovo has deteriorated.
Dress has declared that the situation of businesses in Kosovo is worse than in the countries of the region, and that this has also affected the decline in the number of foreign investors.
We once have to do a slightly more detailed analysis, analyzing what companies are that went bankrupt in 2023 and their capacity that were with the number of employees and their annual development and circulation. With the functioning of different sectors even of production, then we should not take this as positive news that has an increase of over 4 percent. But we can say that in Kosovo unfortunately doing business has deteriorated, it has deteriorated compared with other countries in the region. We today do not offer convenient conditions to bring potential investors to Kosovo. And there is no question about economic development, or the expansion of businesses in Kosovo”, Dresaj has said.
The business situation, Dreshai, calls it existential and on the brink of bankruptcy. Major damage, it has said it is also causing lack of the KPM Board.
“We have continued meetings with businesses in Kosovo and conversations which we constantly conduct we can say that the business situation is almost in most sectors it's only survival, it's on the verge of bankruptcy because the situation we find ourselves in is an unfriendly situation to do business. Many sectors that are on the brink of bankruptcy. For example, because of not the good management of Government and Parliament, we have today the KPM board, which is unformed, and as a result, many businesses are on the verge of bankruptcy because over a year are almost not working in its areas as a sector. They're heavy machinery that costs high maintenance, we're dealing with gravel companies, I'm dealing with concrete companies, in minerals fields”, he said.
The criticism also concerns lack of implementation of the Strategic Investment Law. In this case, Dresaj has stated that the lack of this Law shows that Kosovo does not provide “potential investor conditions to come and invest in Kosovo”.
“We also have remained the law on strategic investment, which was founded in the Kosovo Parliament in 2017, and from that year we have no fulfillment-changing whatsoever. As a result of not planning this law, we are a country that does not offer potential investor conditions to come and invest in Kosovo. In Kosovo the economic situation is serious and the government must understand once and for all because the economy does not develop with media statements and the economy should not be a week-or-a-month priority, but the economy should be the government's continued priority”, Dresaj said.
