European Union for Foreign Policy and Security High Representative Josep Borrell said the war in Europe is on the horizon.
“We imagined being in a world with a circle of friends after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and this was replaced by a fire ring between us, instability by Sahel in the Middle East, Caucasus and Baltic, not to see. deeper in Africa. A fire ring around us”, Borrell said during the “New Economia Forum in Madrid.
He noted that now is a very important moment in building Europe, because war is on the horizon and this is not a small issue.
According to him, the best way to strengthen NATO is increasing European defence capacities.
“The EU will not have a common army in the foreseeable future, and defence will remain the responsibility of member states,”, he noted.
Borrell warned that the possibility of a high-intensity conventional war in Europe “is no longer a fantasy”.
