US President Joe Biden said Israel is respecting his request to allow more aid in Gaza, a day after warning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of changing American politics.
As he left the White House, Biden was asked by reporters whether during his telephone conversation with Netanyah on April 4th, the American leader threatened the Israeli prime minister with stopping his military aid to Israel, the American president replied:
I asked them to do what they're doing”.
During the telephone conversation, Biden warned Netanyah that American politics against Israel depended on the protection of civilians and relief workers in Gaza, as seven humanitarian workers were killed during an Israeli air strike.
Hours after this telephone conversation, Israel announced it would allow “temporarily” aid shipments north of Gaza, where residents are facing hunger. The help will be sent from the Israeli port of Ashdod to the Erez crossing.
Israel also said it was fired Two officers After finding out they've committed <x0) major mistakes” during the fears attacks that killed workers of the World Central Kitchen organization.
However, the White House said that Israel must do more to fulfill the promises it has given to Beden.
It is important that these pledges be completely realised and implemented rapidly”, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said during a conversation with journalists.
Beden's warning of policy change is the most clear indication of Washington's possible conditioning of military support for Israel since the war in Gaza began on 7 October.
The war began after Hamas é Palestinian group declared a terrorist organisation by the US and the European Union attacked the south of Israel, killing 1,200 people and kidnapping 250 others.
Israel has retaliated with an air and ground offensive in Gaza, which has left thousands killed, has forced hundreds of thousands more to move as relief organisations warn of high levels of hunger in Palestinian enclaves. /rel
