After the Socialists in parliament broke the Law on Protective Areas, businessman Jared Kouchner announced plans for resorts on the island of Saban and in the area of Zrvenec, both national parks in Albania, Bloomberg suggests.
Jared Kouchner, the son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump, announced in an interview for Bloomberg on Friday that he plans to develop a tourist resort for the island of Saban and the Zrvenec area in Albania, investments that seem to be linked to the contractors' decision of the ruling Albanian Socialists to break the Law on Protected Areas, in line with European Union recommendations.
In an interview for the American media BloombergKouchner stated that in the Zrvenec area, he intends to build ten thousand tourist accommodation units, while in Saban images are ready for villas and hotels. Kouchner did not disclose what agreement, procurement or contract procedure these projects will be developed, which are on public property in Albania and nominally protected by environmental legislation. What becomes known is that his investment company is supported by funds from Arab countries.
Just days ago, the Socialists with the government's “approved, despite objections from Brussels, amendments to the Protected Areas Law, which effectively make these areas “vulnerable”. Under the proposed law, the government has the right to approve investments in these areas, which lie along the Adriatic coast and are of great importance to biodiversity.
Saban Island is part of the Saban Karabur National Park, the only park Earth and the SeaGold in Albania. “The only Marine National Park, Karaburun-Sazan, is a vivid marvel of Albanian nature. This park is considered home to 36 marine species of international importance among them, and we have species that belong to endangered species lists. Water/deterranean Ecosystem “Caraburun Sazan”, proclaimed “park National naval” (categoria II),” National Protection Agency. This appears to have not prevented Kouchner from preparing construction plans, which appears to have started before Albanian law, which was technically a proposal of some Socialist mayors through some MPs who are usually not recognised for proposals, is made public in Tirana.
Albania is a country affected by the state capture phenomenon, in which laws do not govern a situation, but are approved on the request of a specific party. Order laws are considered the opposite of the rule of law or rule of law because, as noted in this case, laws are not equivalent to all, but can be changed according to the specific requirements of a person or a specific grouping.
