Germany's special envoy for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, speaking of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, called for more political will and for the parties to take concrete action, since it is not the European Union's duty to be arbitrator.
As for the relations of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, with the internationals, the German emissary said it is not in Kosovo's long-term interest to lose opportunities towards the EU.
The path in which Mr. Kurti's government is moving in dialogue, in the long-term plan, I fear this may not be good in Kosovo's interest, for approaching the European Union. I'm afraid this could lead more to a course of self-reliance and loss of opportunities to move towards the European Union”, Sarrazin said in an interview for Abcnews.al.
The German emissary also commented on summits held in Tirana and called on the past not to be used to boost nationalist feelings, but the Western Balkan countries work together to move towards the European Union.
“I think we should not underestimate this general idea of the summit, which was organised to show that Moldova, Ukraine and the countries of the Western Balkans are together and together can achieve much and should see each other positively, understand and know that every step that takes one of these countries will also help others. That's very positive. And also, what I felt like the atmosphere among leaders was very important. And then Tirana could give an opportunity for a bilateral meeting of Mr. Zelensky and Mr. Vuciq, who obviously has some goals, which you know, perhaps even useful to the Serbian side, but, anyway, it is a good phase, undoubtedly”, he said.
