The UN Security Council has rejected Russia's request to hold an extraordinary session to discuss NATO bombings on Serb military police targets during the war in Kosovo, an intervention aimed at preventing the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Albanian population in Kosovo from the Serbian state.
12 UN KS members abstained over the Russian state's demand, while only 3 were pro.
While representatives of France and the US insisted that Russia was not consulted at all on the issue, Russia's representative claimed their request figured in the UN official agenda.
The Russian Federation requested hearings at the Security Council to talk about NATO bombings on the 25th anniversary of the humanitarian campaign against the military and police targets of Slobodan Milosevic's regime at the time.
Russia requested that this topic be introduced under the title “Peace and International Security Threats”.
Even in the UN Security Council communique during the day, UN EC reportedly“can be collected”, leaving open the possibility of this conference not happening.
“(March 25th), the Security Council can meet for a conference under the agenda of threats to international peace and security. Russia called for the meeting to mark the 25th anniversary of the air bombing campaign conducted by the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (RFJ) during the 1999 Kosovo War. At the time of the writing, it was uncertain whether information would be conducted as planned, as one or more members of the Council could request a procedure vote in an effort to block the meeting. If the meeting takes place, Assistant Secretary General for Europe, Central Asia and America Miroslav Janca will inform, while Kosovo and Serbia will likely participate according to rule 39 and the Council's interim regulation of procedure, respectively.”, tIt's in the Security Council communique..
