For January-February 2024, compared to the same period last year, according to Kosovo Customs, import of goods has marked 15% growth. Economic knowledge considers this import increase disturbing. According to them, with imports of goods, Kosovo is also importing prices.
The high level of import of goods in the first two months of this year alone is evidence of the situation Kosovo is in, depending on foreign products.
“until now import for January-February 2024 is 848m euros, which compared to last year in the same period represents a 15% increase. The countries Kosovo imports mostly of goods from are: Turkey, Germany, China, Greece, Northern Macedonia, Albania and Italy” are said to respond to Dogan.
This situation is seen as disturbing by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Director Zana Beqiri considers that Kosovo should make constant efforts for more local production.
“The number of imports of raw materials such as different food products that can be produced in Kosovo, then we see it as such a problematic mcca because this means that our products in the country are not as popular or are not at the consumer price in Kosovo, and that's why we have so many imports”, Beqiri told Rtv21.
Economist Mustaf Kadriaj blames Kurti Government for unfulfilled promises of increasing local production.
