Canadian police say two adults and four young children, the youngest of whom was less than three months old, have died in a mass murder in what Otawa mayor described as “one of the most shocking incidents of violence” in the city's history.
A 19-year-old is in custody and is facing six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder, reports The Praegodia.
Police were called to a house in the Barrhaven community, where officers found what Ottawa police chief Eric Stubbbs called “a terrible scene. The victims were a new family from Sri Lanka”.
A 40-year-old man, Amarakoonmuyasela Ge Gamini Amarakoon, who had recently come to Canada and lived at home, was also found dead at home.
“This was a meaningless act of violence committed on mere innocent people”, Stubbbs said.
Stubbbs says police are still trying to establish relations between the suspects, Fbrito De-Zoysa, and the victims. De-Zoysa, who is also from Sri Lanka and was in Canada studying, is believed to have also lived at home.
Otherwise, Sri Lanka officials are in contact with members of their family in Columbus.
