Huth rebels, backed by Iran since November, have been attacking ships at the Red Sea, as they have said, in solidarity with Palestinians after the start of the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian group declared terrorist organisation by the United States and the European Union.
The US Central Command forces acted “in self-defense” when they were involved and destroyed rockets and fears, but three containers with guns in the Hhutt-controlled areas, the command said through an X post, formerly known as Twitter.
The “determined that these weapons posed immediate danger to American merchant ships and navy ships located in the region. These actions were taken to protect freedom of movement and to make international waters safer for the American Navy and commercial ships”, the American Central Command said.
The Huth attacks have forced ships crossing the key trade route at the Red Sea to change their course by increasing costs in order to avoid attacks.
The US and Britain have carried out continuous attacks on Huth's rebel targets in Yemen in response to ship attacks. / REL/
