Former Commander General NATO, Wresley Clark, has declared that 25 years after NATO's intervention to end ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, he is very proud of everything Kosovo has done in economic, political, and steps towards membership in the European Union and NATO.

Clark at the 25th anniversary conference of NATO intervention in Kosovo, on the subject “Democracy, human rights and peace building” organised by the University of Pristina along with the US University of Arkansas, through a video message, said he hopes Kosovo will join the EU and NATO.

“25 years ago, I was commander of NATO when we began operations to end ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. It was a harsh call for NATO, was a fierce call for the president of the United States and was a fierce call for the people of Kosovo. Today, 25 years later, I am very proud of all that Kosovo has done throughout economic progress, political progress, independence, the work it has done to establish itself as a member of the European Union and a NATO member, which I hope will happen. Also, remember the victims of losses, mistakes in the air campaign, and concerns that all of us have to do the right job to care for the people of Kosovo and end ethnic Serb cleansing”, Clark has said, reports the KP.

He has added that when he sees Kosovo Albanians, he remembers the importance of freedom, courage, determination and the fight for the protection of families and values.

“You are an excellent example of the values of democracy, and in a troubled world, America needs all of its friends, as well as Kosovo needs America's help, so I think it's a potentially strong partnership that will be strengthened and I just want to say from the bottom of my heart, all these years I've appreciated support, feelings of support from the people of Kosovo. When I travel around the world, when I go to Kosovo and when I go to New York and even when Kosovo Albanians see me, it reminds me of the importance of freedom, the importance of courage and determination, and the struggle to protect families, protect values. So, my heart is with you, my soul is with you Kosovo and I wish you all the best”, Clark added.

At this conference, the country's president, Vjosa Osmani, and US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier were present.
