Over 300 new cancer cases have been marked during January and February of this year in Kosovo. Meanwhile, compared with the same period last year, the number of cases has increased by over 10 percent. As breast cancer continues to dominate women, the male is the lung.

The director of the Oncology Clinic at the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo (QKUK), Ilir Kurtishi, in an interview for Kosovo Press says the number of new cancer cases is on the rise, until the point is that it is expected that the renovations of this clinic will complete early May.

Kurtish mentions some of the factors that contribute to the increase in the disease of malaria, including genetics, external environment, age, gender, and others.

This year's “in January we recorded 150 cases and in February about 170, so over 310 cases are in two months. Since 2023 the first two months, we have about 10 to 12 percent more, and this trend continues to be high, just like last year. Since 2023 marks a high number of new cases -- for the first time in Kosovo -- over 2,000 people. So we registered in 2023, 2 thousand and 130 people, and in 2022, they were registered or identified and treated at the Oncology Clinic as new cases about 1,000 and 750 people. It's about adult tumors and not child tumors and not hematological tumors that are treated by two other clinics... The most frequent form of these diseases is breast cancer that dominates women and is generally the most frequent tumor, and men dominate lung cancer, and immediately after these two forms of cancers, lead colon tumors”, says Kurtishi.

In addition, Kurtishi indicates that during April or early May, works are expected to be completed at the Oncology Clinic, which he says will have capacity expansion, including doubling the number of beds.

In addition, the director of this clinic points out that the digitalization of services will be made, with what cases will provide accurate information on activities conducted in this clinic.

Kurtishi points out that very soon it is planned to become the most sophisticated preparation of cytostatic drugs, which, according to him, will increase the safety of the medicine and the dose to the maximum.

“Klinic of Oncology, according to the task chief who is doing an extraordinary job, it will be completed before the deadline and we think April, or early May, the infrastructure aspect will be ready and equipped with inventory. And the clinic will be a small but very modern clinic with extensive capacity and we will have double the number of beds. At least 90 patients will be able to receive therapy at the same time, which will greatly facilitate the work of nurses, and it will be a better distribution of medicine, a greater comfort for patients... what will be added to the clinic and which is a lot of the digital benefit of clinic services, and we will have precise information on any activity done in the clinic, every service we offer and perhaps very soon, this year, or next next year we will make the most sophisticated drug preparation of the statistics that will increase the safety of the drug, say, when you say,

Among other things, health professional Ilir Kurtish points out that concern remains that over 50 percent of the first - time cancer cases reported at the clinic are in advanced stages of the disease.
