The deputy leader of the opposition party in Kosovo, the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lutfi Haziri, criticises Kosovo government for losing two moments created by the war in Ukraine and Israel's conflict in Gaza to end its status problem with Serbia.
In an interview for the Voice of America in Washington, Mr. Haziri says the government of Prime Minister Albin Kurti has created daily crises for Kosovo's international partners and that it has boosted nationalist sentiments, affecting the country's departure from pro-European orientation.
He says the current leaders in Kosovo must return to close co-ordination with the United States, including on issues such as the decision to prevent the circulation of the dinar, and says that in this election year in the countries of the European Union and the United States, after which, according to him, it will be unclear how the problems in the region will be addressed, Kosovo must close open issues with Serbia not to remain, as he says, barrels baroti.
The deputy leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo Lutfi Haziri said 2023 was the lost “and that the moments created by the war in Ukraine and the Israeli conflict in Gaza were not exploited by the Kosovo government for “malmax3> in relation to Serbia, which he described as “supporting and supporting terrorist groups<5>. He adds that Kosovo's government has wasted time engaging in Serbia and failing to keep its word on international partners, behaviour, which, according to him, led Kosovo towards punitive measures.
According to Mr. Haziri, this year's tensions in Kosovo have produced crises that have forced Kosovo's international partners to deal with them on a daily basis.
He says that even the recent frustration between Kosovo and the international community over the decision to prevent the circulation of the dinar in Kosovo is part of the same approach. According to him, the Democratic League of Kosovo considers that “the implementation of the regulation (for the ban on the dinar circulation) is constitutional obligation” but says its subject would be committed to a co-ordination with international factors.
Kosovo, he says, had to, at any cost, have a better co-ordination <x0, a co-operation, a pragmatism, in order to remove problems from the table, to move towards normalisation. ”
The past “has clearly shown that, in no case, the US when it promised and made pledges to the people of Kosovo and the Kosovo government has failed to keep its word under any circumstances. And now we need this step of normalisation to co-ordinate with international mediators, because the EU is our next house”, he adds.
Asked whether as an assistant to the exchange idea of territories as a solution to the Kosovo issue and Serbia thinks this idea has died, Mr. Haziri said that “now in the Balkans is exempted from changing borders as possible option because war in Ukraine has raised problems affecting the external borders of states virtually is the main problem”.
He says that despite the attention focused on Ukraine and the Israeli conflict in Gaza, Kosovo still remains a top priority for the international community. But, according to him, Kosovo is being delayed... This government has lost, two big moments, has lost the opportunity to reach a comprehensive, legal binding agreement, with Serbia forced to rip apart the first page of the Constitution in relation to Kosovo,” said Mr. Haziri. Serbia is now required indirect recognition. At least, on this scale Kosovo's interest must be maximum again. And that's a big step Kosovo has to take. ”
According to him, elections held this year in the United States and European Union countries can change the approach of international factors towards Kosovo and the region.
It is understandable that the Western Balkans remain as an open, or frozen problem, is always a barotite barrel... and the sooner the problems in the region close, the better and easier it will be for a normalisation of our region and the European perspective. ”
Mr. Haziri accuses the Kurti government of leaving Kosovo's pro-European agenda. This government ... increasing the national institution has lowered the European Senate and the pro-European culture of the people of Kosovo, waiting for integration,”, he adds. He says EU punitive measures are boosting this anti-European sentiment in Kosovo. / VOA
