Hill: The issue of association is crucial, we agreed 12 years ago on its establishment.

Hill said it is a fact that Serbia and the US have different positions on Kosovo, but that they should not allow that fact to interfere with other issues.

We have to agree to disagree on certain things. I think one of the most important things we can do is continue economic co-operation. You are already a leading country in investment in technology. We employ many young Serbs and Serbia is our main partner in terms of trade in the region and this is very important, but the relationship cannot be based solely on the economy, it should be based on political understanding and let us see what we can do together”, Hill said.

Speaking of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Hill said the US is pleased that Serbia supports the dialogue process.

The “is very difficult, but I must say Serbia is coming prepared in these talks. Sometimes no progress is achieved in these talks, but I don't think someone blames Serbia for the fact that the process does not lead to a better consensus. I consider the issue of the rights of Serbs living in Kosovo as one of the central pillars of the” dialogue process, Hill said.

He stressed that the issue of the Serb Communist Community is absolutely crucial.

“We have supported since it first agreed about 12 years ago and must be implemented. Although people have heard it a thousand times and are frustrated by the fact that it hasn't been implemented, it doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about it. I think we should be very focused on starting this”, Hill said.
