Commission Chairman David McAllister stressed that the European Parliament is deeply concerned about the situation in northern Kosovo.
The European Parliament has strongly condemned these acts, which destabilise Kosovo. ”
Michael Gahler, German Eurodeputs, said very serious claims have been made. The first “Ask is what evidence is made available to support these charges. We have to have evidence. ”
Spanish Eurodeput Nacho Sánchez Amor also voiced support for Kosovo, but stressed the need for careful access.
“You mentioned criminal groups controlled by Serbia, but it is difficult to act without more convincing evidence. We understand your difficult situation and we support your people, but more clear evidence is needed. ”
Thomas Waitz, Eurodeputs from Austria, requested an international investigation into the case in Zubin Potok.
Serbia has said it wants to be part of the investigation, but the similar situation behind Banjska brought nothing concrete. It is time for the Serbian government to take responsibility and act against extremists. ”
He also called for the five EU nations that have not recognised Kosovo to do so as soon as possible.
The time is for these states to recognise Kosovo as independent to send a clear message against destabilisation,” he stressed.
Following eurodeput speeches, top diplomat Donika Grovala reacted, stressing the importance of immediate action.
Kosovo's “Police have seized an arsenal of weapons and military equipment coming directly from Serbia. There have been warnings of such attacks, and the motive for destabilizing is clear. ”
The drill ended with a warning of the major effects such attacks may have been ignored.
“If Serbia continues on the road to the EU without real pressure, these actions will not stop only in Kosovo, but will spread to the region as well. I request your support to stop this threat. ”
